Kids' Portable DVD Players
Buying my daughter Megan a portable dvd player is one of the best investments I've ever made. Like any typical three-year-old, she craved the routine of watching her favourite shows over and over. We're a one-TV household (by choice), but after sitting through Cinderella for about the 15th time, my wife and I decided it was time to reclaim the 6 o'clock news!
Not only does my daughter feel great about owning her very own "TV", but she can watch it wherever we go. We tend to travel a fair amount, visiting far-flung family and friends, and having the dvd player with us helps to recreate a familiar environment wherever we happen to be, which makes for a more settled child, and thus a much less stressful trip. It also helps to while away those hours spent in airport lounges or the back of the car!
As parents we also feel happier about Megan watching dvds rather than broadcast TV, so we can monitor what she's watching and that she doesn't accidentally flick onto an unsuitable show while we're out of the room. It also limits her exposure to advertising - kids are like giant sponges for information, and mine can recite the entire script of many an advert after seeing them only a handful of times. Talk about stimulating demand!
Because this has been so successful for us, I created this website to pull together relevent information to inform the purchasing decisions of other would-be owners of kids' portable dvd players: what features to look out for, recommended models to consider, and so forth.
